I have recently been immersed in the Abraham Hicks meditations and audios related to their most recent book “The Vortex”.
Whilst not for everyone, Ester and Jerry Hicks have been messengers of the teachings of Abraham for many years and while appearing deep and complex, their messages are very simple and effective if you choose to apply them.
One of the main messages in “The Vortex” is that of understanding contrast. By contrast I mean something that gives you perspective of what you don’t want so that you can understand what you do want.
I know that it is often easier for me to know what I don’t want as opposed to what I do want and on the surface that seems unproductive, however, in the context of how Abraham explains it, contrast is a useful tool if we use it wisely.
Abraham explains that contrast gives birth to clarity of improvement. It can help us to determine what we don’t want so that in turn we can turn toward the opposite of that experience and look toward what we do want. If we see life as a buffet then contrast is simply allowing us to decided what we don’t want to eat so that it narrows down our options of what we do want to eat.
Every time we experience something that offers us contrast we expand, we learn, so every experience like this, even if we label it as negative, is constructive because of what it allows us to learn and understand about ourselves.
Unfortunately, many of us don’t use the contrast as motivation to look toward what we do want. Instead of turning our attention to what we do want we continue to focus on what we don’t want, justifying why we don’t want it, complaining about it and adding emphasis to what we don’t want by talking about it incessantly, attending support groups and even blogging about it! We find ourselves standing at the buffet table pointing at the plate of food we find distasteful saying ‘I don’t want that, it is awful, poor me for tasting it, I really, really don’t like that’….. and so on. Strangely we probably wouldn’t do this at a buffet, we would likely just ignore the dish we don’t like and look for the one we do – but we don’t seem to do this in many of life’s experiences and when we do behave in this way all it does is bring us MORE of what we DON’T want.
The law of attraction dictates that we get more of what we focus upon. If we dislike qualities in ourselves, our partners or our friends, I can assure you that those qualities will remain as long as we keep paying attention to them to the degree that we are.
Abraham confirms that in an attraction based universe there is only inclusion, so whether we shout YES or NO at something we bring it into our vibration – the only way to not include something is to turn our attention to something we do want.
Most people in our lives are not tuned in to their vibration and so we can’t expect someone to be in alignment with who they are so that we can in turn be in alignment with who we. We need to allow them to follow their own life path even if it is taking them further and further away from where we are heading. It is our job to take control of our own vibration and to look around for what lines us up with who we are. Then and only then will people and experiences that match our vibration be drawn to us. So the biggest question we can ask ourselves is ‘Am I a match to what I want or am I just sitting here being upset about what I am not or don’t have’?
Abraham teaches us that our role is to be willing and eager to let go of control of things that are uncontrollable, like what others are doing, and focus on the one thing we can control – what we think.
A belief is only a thought we continue to think. So therefore, if we change the thought we can change the belief. Our beliefs are what keep us from being who we really are and having what we really want. Where the belief came from and why we choose to continue to believe or think it is often interesting but ultimately irrelevant. The only question we need to ask is “Do I want more of the same or do I want something different”? Something different is only a thought away.
Abraham says that the most dominant premise that is most misunderstood in our world is that we should point out what we don’t want, when actually the more we point it out the more we will get it. Our reality is manifesting all the time and the physical reality of who we are and what we have is what indicates to us the way in which we have been thinking. Feedback of our thoughts is all around us – it is the life we have created for ourselves – we don’t have to look any further than that (or blame anyone else!).
The great news (depending on whether you are looking for a solution or whether you would prefer an external excuse for what you have created) is that we can take our power back by changing our thoughts. It is completely within our control. If we are getting results we don’t want then wouldn’t it be prudent to think a different thought?
The secret it to think the thoughts that match what you want until you believe them and the universe will give you the proof. But as Abraham says – If you need to see it before you believe it, the proof will never come.
Talk to you soon
